Forever is Forever, Even if I can’t wrap my head around what Forever really means…..

When you look back at verses 1-5 in a Psalm 23, it is not difficult to see why David starts out verse 6 with firm belief that God’s goodness and mercy would follow him all the days of his life. Here is why David has this confidence regarding God’s goodness:

Vs-1: God is David’s shepherd and he does not have any wants or needs.
Vs-2: God provides a safe and comfortable place for David to rest.
Vs-3: God restores David’s soul and leads David in paths that are for David’s good and for God’s glory.
Vs-4: God is ever present with David, thus David has no fear of anything this world has to offer.
Vs-5: God blesses and provides for David an over abundance of what David needs and does so in plain sight of those who are David’s enemies..

Question: Can you say these things about your relationship with. God?

My life seems but a brief moment when I think about spending eternity in the house of The Lord. To be honest, forever is a concept that I can understand in theory and accept completely by faith. However, wrapping my head around the concept in the context of this temporary home, in this mortal body is not only difficult, but can keep my mind occupied for what seems hours. Regardless of my limited vision, it is by faith I accept the Word of God to be true, it is by faith that I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savoir, it is by faith that I live out each day that He sustains me for His honor and His glory. It is by faith that I shall dwell in a his house forever!

God is good-all the time!

It’s About You God, NOT me.

YOU set and prepare the table for me;
YOU anoint my head with oil;
YOU fill and overflow my cup with YOUR blessings; and
YOU do this in front of all that can do me harm, my enemies-even before the devil him self.

YOU do know, this is not the way WE do things. . . .

WE generally expect someone else to set the table and prepare the meal for us;
WE may spend the extra money on ourselves to get the expensive item, but we don’t tend to “waste” the extra dollars on others;
WE tend to make sure our cup is full, even at the cost of someone else who has far less than we do;
WE are certainty not bold enough to do this in front of anyone who could cause us harm, we are far more secretive about or wants and desires.

I am not sure we always see the difference.

You are With Me

Where I have been, He is there.
Where I am, He is there.
Where I will be, He is there.

Where He is, I have no fear.
Where He is, I am there.
Where He is, I have no fear.
Where He is, I am there.

Where I have been, He is there.
Where I am, He is there.
Where I will be, He is there.

Comfort is not the absence of discomfort, but knowing that in Christ, there is no place I can be without Him.

I Shall Not Want…..

I Shall Not Want. . .
If the God who created the Heavens and the Earth cares for me, is there really anything else I need? Then why do I want? If He provides for me a safe and comfortable place to sleep, then why do I want? If He leads me to do good and provides the best opportunities for me based on my gifting and passions, then why do I still want? If He provides for sweet times of rest that restores my soul, then why do I still want? If He establishes a path for which my feet can walk, the best direction for my life to go, if His design for my life is not only what is best for me, but my family and for His Kingdom, then why do I still want.
I Shall Not Want . . .

Wisdom not of this world

Who is not a son, who does not have a father? Who does not desire to be wise? Then listen to your fathers instruction, do not mock his advice.

Who does not desire to be more wise? A girl, a boy, a man, a woman? Then listen to those who are wise; God has given them to to help you, to make you wise and able to live a good life.

-Proverbs 13:1

Wisdom not of this world

Work hard and you will have what you need; righteousness bears results and keeps you from difficulties. You will be satisfied by your work and it will bless you; a fool thinks they know everything and listens to no one, but a wise man listens and acts on the the advice of the wise. The frustration of a fool is obvious to all, but the one who acts and is concerned about the future discards with ease the insults of fools.

Wisdom not of this world

God provides all that we have; every blessing we have counted or will be able to count will be because He alone provided it for us. Yet, within these blessing He expects us not to be lazy as it results in poverty, but hard work results in gain. Work diligently each day, putting care and thought into what you do – don’t waste your time, as it will only bring shame.

-Proverbs 10:2-5

Wisdom not of this world

I love this verse: A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. -Proverbs 10:1 I love this verse not becuase I was much of an example of it growing up, but becuase of my own son Wyatt. My heart is GLAD, joyful actually when I think of him, the young man he is and who God is growing him to be. When I think about his relationship with his mom, it is the furthest thing from how you would describe Cindy heart toward Wyatt. He gives her no reason to have sorrow, he is not a fool, but the best son she could have ever ask to be blessed with. I love listening in on their conversations and watching how he treats her with great respect. He is a wise son and we are so blessed to be his parents!

Blessed is the man

Read these definitions first, then read the verses:

Blessed: of or enjoying happiness
Man: an individual-the human race
Walks: to move about in visible form-to make headway
Counsel: advice given-a plan of action or behavior
Wicked: morally very bad
Stands: to take up or maintain a specified position or posture
Sinners: one that sins
Sit: to rest-to occupy a place
Scoffers: mean, to show one’s contempt in derision or mockery
Delights: to take great pleasure
Law: a binding custom or practice of a community : a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding
Lord: one having power and authority over others
Meditates: to engage in contemplation or reflection
Day: the time of light between one night and the next
Night: the time from dusk to dawn when no sunlight is visible

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalms 1:1-2

Makes a difference doesn’t it?

Wisdom not of this world

I don’t recall ever walking away away from a difficult conversation, but God seems to be pretty clear about what happens when you try and reprove (to scold or correct usually gently or with kindly intent) a wicked man, you get injured. On top of that they will hate you! I have never been one overly concerned with what others think of me, but injury and hate on not on the top of my list of things I want to intentionally experience.

The good news is that if you reprove someone who is wise, they will respond with love. When you give instruction to a wise man they become wiser still. When you teach a righteous man, they will increase their learning.

If all we see in this is what to do or not do do, we have missed the most valuable lesson which we can derive from a simple question: Who do you want to be? The wicked or the wise man?
